Thales is an experienced provider of onboard electrical power management and develops electrical power generation and conversion systems for commercial aircraft, including helicopters.
Thales is now preparing for the future by designing electrical systems for greener aircraft and has created significant potential for synergies in this domain. Along with Goodrich, Thales is supplying the variable-frequency electrical power generation system for the Airbus A380. Thales electrical power generation and conversion systems, and energy storage systems, are also present on the A380 and A350.
Boeing has selected Thales’s electrical power conversion system, which features innovative lithium-ion batteries, for the B787 Dreamliner programme. This is the first time this technology has been deployed on a commercial aircraft. Lithium-ion offers a 50% weight advantage over conventional battery technologies, with no loss in performance.
Thales is also strengthening its commitment to power optimization through its “Intelligent Power Platform”, designed to achieve simplified and streamlined interactivity throughout the entire aircraft, from nose to tail.
