As threats evolve, so do Thales technologies. The open system architecture adopted for the new S-Cube submarine sonar system family is a case in point. Sharing expertise and experience within the group, Thales is committed to ensuring the submarine’s total dominance in the underwater battlespace.
The Thales Submarine offer comprises a full range of acoustic and non acoustic sensor suites (including the new generation S-Cube sonar suite, the CM010 non hull penetrating Optronic mast, the Phoenice Radar system and the VIGILE R-ESM/ELINT system) to provide the submarine with outstanding detection and ISR capacity. Thales provides as well extensive internal and external communications capabilities.
The S-Cube submarine sonar system migrates proven functionality to a COTS-based open system architecture, offering customers a totally new approach to a through-life sonar solution. S-Cube exploits the flexibility of standard open system interfaces, protocols and services to establish an architecture which is scaleable, interoperable, receptive to change and cost-effective throughout the life cycle.
Working in partnership with shipyards and prime contract organisations world-wide and leveraging on technologies developed for customer such as UK, France and Australia Thales has installed systems aboard more than 140 conventional and nuclear-powered submarines operating with 23 navies. This pedigree includes wide aperture large bandwidth planar flank arrays, very low frequency towed arrays, intercept arrays, passive ranging sonars and obstacle avoidance navigation sonars.
Thales experience in materials technology, signal and data processing, platform isolation, advanced beamforming techniques and user-friendly operator interfaces is now underpinning the development of a new generation of integrated systems offering outstanding detection performance against the quietest adversaries.
