Thales UK has been declared ‘Large Business of the Year 2010’ for the Gatwick Diamond area. The Award was made at the region’s most prestigious business event, the Gatwick Diamond Business Awards 2010, on 4 March by Nick Hewer of BBC TV The Apprentice as guest presenter.
Every year the Gatwick Diamond Business Association organises the Gatwick Diamond Business Awards. The Gatwick Diamond region is a key economic area, not just for the South East, but for the whole country and is home to a vast range of businesses, which span all sectors of the economy, from household names to niche companies, and from multinationals to sole traders. The Gatwick Diamond Business Award winners are those businesses or people who have shown innovation and inspiration in their work, and have demonstrated a real commitment to the region.
Thales was awarded the ‘Large Business of the Year' title, sponsored by Price¬WaterhouseCoopers, for enhancing the reputation of the Gatwick Diamond and employee contribution to the local community.
Chairman of the judges, Jeremy Taylor, says: "Recognising and rewarding business innovation and success is at the heart of these awards. The aim is to raise awareness of entrepreneurship and business excellence and to help showcase business talent in the Gatwick Diamond region."

Victor Chavez, Deputy Chief Executive Thales UK, says: “Thales UK has invested £100 million in our new facilities in Crawley, where we produce innovative technology that touches millions of people around the world. I am sure that our 2500 staff in Crawley are incredibly proud and pleased that their efforts and professionalism have been recognised with this award from the local business community.”
