Ten zones demonstrate the Group’s world-class solutions
On the ground floor of the Thales pavilion there is a press suite for registered media, and a labeled careers area with HR staff ready to discuss recruitment opportunities.

Zone 1 - Joint Military Airspace Management and C4ISTAR
The primary briefing area offers an insight to our understanding of the challenges and complexity of military airspace management. Our presentation highlights many of the factors that must be considered to ensure the safe operation of civil and military air vehicles within specified areas of responsibility. The interoperability between communication systems, sensors and integration with the UK Air Defence Organisation demonstrates our understanding of the military requirements to network enabled capability.

Drawing from the expertise embedded across the business, Thales demonstrates unparalleled experience, technologies and foresight that make it one of the finest providers of C4ISTAR systems in the world. From the smallest and lightweight to a fully integrated system of systems, Thales has the ability to provide end users and commanders alike with decisive and battle winning C4ISTAR. Our experience in delivering C4ISTAR at the right time in the right place crosses all domains of space, land, sea and air.

Zone 2 – Airspace Protection
Threats in the airspace are ever increasing with cruise missiles and Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs), adding to the conventional threats of fixed wing jets and attack helicopters. Thales has invested in an array of new technologies to deal with both managing and protecting the airspace.

The NATO Air Command and Control System (ACCS LOC1) sets new standards for air operations in Europe, providing a single, integrated approach to planning, tasking, monitoring and mission execution.

New radar capabilities with systems such as Homeland Alerter, a passive radar sensor and the Ground Master family of multi-mission air defence radars are dedicated to providing protection of vital assets, particularly from low altitude threats. These systems can be linked with highly versatile weapon systems such as the Multi Mission System which when fitted with the Starstreak II Very Short Range Air Defence (VSHORAD) missile or the Lightweight Multi-role Missile (LMM) provide the highest level of lethality against a wide array of targets from the air, land or sea.

Zone 3 – Services and Simulation
A critical component of security in the air transport and land transport sectors, simulation plays a key role in the instruction and training of airline pilots and heavy vehicle drivers, for example. To serve the requirements of both civil and military markets, Thales provides end-to-end solutions from computer-aided training systems to full mission simulators.

On stand there is an Air Movement Operations (AMO) demonstration of Thales’ Swift2Move product, showing the application’s capabilities and ability to operate over a secure communications network.

Zone 4 – Air Traffic Management
Thales is a global leader in air traffic management and air traffic control (ATC) and offers a technically advanced range of solutions from design and integration to installation and maintenance. This includes the EUROCAT family of control centres, primary radars, secondary surveillance radars, communication, navigational aids and landing systems, surface movement and approach control systems.

The zone features a range of Thales’ high quality ATC communications products and its Remote Control Equipment Monitoring system. A EUROCAT-C demonstration in the zone presents Thales’ cost effective solution for approach for small to medium ATC centres. The controller working position on display is coupled with a Thales AS690 ADS-B ground station and will be demonstrating live traffic from ADS-B and ModeS equipped aircraft in the Farnborough and London Heathrow area.

Zone 10 – I-Deck A350 cockpit
Thales is pleased to unveil at Farnborough the A350 XWB Cockpit Display System demonstrator. Thales is recognized for providing integrated cockpit and avionics suites for all types of aircraft systems improving weight reduction, operational performance, reliability, energy consumption and safety. Equipped with the latest and most advanced architecture, based on Integrated Modular Avionics concept, the A350XWB and the new ATR will offer pilots a much-simplified working environment.

External displays
The pavilion’s external displays showcase a variety of Thales technology. Amongst them are two UAVs: the Schiebel Camcopter S100 and the Watchkeeper. Able to carry cameras, sensors, communications equipment or other payloads, UAVs have been used in a reconnaissance and intelligence-gathering role since the 1950s. More challenging roles are envisioned in the future, including combat missions. Thales UK, as Prime Contractor for the Watchkeeper programme, will deliver equipment, training and facilities, with the capability coming into service from 2010.

In addition Thales has developed the Automatic Take Off and Landing System (MAGIC ATOLS) which using revolutionary design, ensures maximum safety in all-weather conditions during the critical takeoff and landing phases of UAV operations.

Also used for target monitoring, is the handheld Joint Target Acquisition Surveillance system (JTAS). This state of the art equipment will allow frontline forces to pinpoint and target enemy troops in all weathers, day and night, up to three miles away.

The LMV is based on a design by Iveco Defence Vehicles Division of Italy. It is designed primarily for strategic and tactical mobility with a high level of protection against anti-tank and anti-personnel mines. It is fitted with the Multi Mission System (MMS) incorporating both the Starstreak Very Short Range Air Defence (VSHORAD) missile and the Lightweight Multi-role Missile (LMM). The LMM draws on the earlier Starburst and Starstreak surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) to develop a low-cost weapon system aiming to engage a wide range of air, land and sea targets.
