International Operations and Industrial Partnerships

Through its successful multidomestic policy, Thales sustains a strong local presence and continues to forge the industrial partnerships needed to undertake complex programmes and manage the associated technological, budget and scheduling risks.

Agreements, alliances and partnerships include:

DCNS (France)
DCNS is a naval prime contractor, shipbuilder and systems integrator to European and World Markets. Thales holds a 25% interest in DCNS alongside the French government, which holds a 75% interest. DCNS has a workforce of approximately 13 300 people across 14 sites in France.

ADS (South Africa)
ADS (African Defence Systems) based in South Africa, provides optimal solutions for defence related electronic products and systems.Thales owns a 60% share in the company.

DRS SS (Joint Venture / USA)
Thales and DRS Technologies, Inc. formed DRS Sonar Systems, a joint venture between DRS Technologies (51%) & Thales North America, Inc (49%). Formed on the 3 April 2007, DRS Sonar Systems manufactures undersea warfare products and systems under license from Thales and serves as the point of contact for sales and support in the United States.

EUROTORP (Joint Venture / France)
Eurotorp is in charge of the marketing of light torpedoes MU 90. It is held by DCNS (26 %) and Thales (24 %), the other half is held by a subsidiary of Finmeccanica, Whitehead Alenia Subaquatics Systems (WASS).

Orizzonte Sistemi Navali (Joint Venture / Italy)
Orizzonte sistemi Navali (OSN) is the Italian warship system engineering company owned jointly by Fincantieri and Finmeccanica. OSN is prime contractor for the Horizon Programme (will provide 4 new Frigates to France and Italy) and is the Italian Prime Contractor for the definition phase and the construction of the New Multipurpose Frigates (FREMM), 27 Units for Italy and France.

SAES (Joint Venture / Spain)
Sociedad Anónima de Electrónica Submarina (SAES) is a Spanish company specializing in underwater acoustics. It is owned by Navantia, Indra and Thales Underwater Systems. SAES is located in Cartagena (Murcia), where the Spanish Navy has its main centres and training schools related to the submarine warfare.

SAMSUNG THALES (Joint Venture / Korea)
Samsung Thales was founded in 1999 as a joint venture between Samsung Electronics and the Thales Group. The company has a broad spectrum of capabilities in defense systems such as air defence, communications, naval, electro-optics and avionics.

YALTES (Joint Venture / Turkey)
YALTES, a Turkish company in the military and the civilian fields, is a joint venture enterprise between Yalcin Group (60% share) and Thales Nederland B.V. (40% share) established on 29 November 2002. YALTES offers the development, production, integration and maintenance of electronic and information systems for military applications, spanning the complete system life-cycle.

BAE (Partner / UK)
As members of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance (ACA), BAE and Thales, along with other industrial partners, are co-prime contractors on the CVF programme.

FINCANTIERI (Partner / Italy)
Fincantieri, based in Italy, works in the fields of construction, repairs and upgrading of merchant ships, naval vessels and large pleasure craft. In partnership with Finmeccanica, the two companies set up the naval engineering company Orizzonte, which is the Prime contractor for the HORIZON and FREMM programmes.

FINMECCANICA (Partner / Italy)
Finmeccanica, based in Italy, operates in the aerospace, defence and security sectors. Also operating in the field of helicopters, defence electronics, satellite and space services. Thales with DCNS in is partnership with Finmeccanica on the FREMM and the HORIZON Frigates programmes.
