Thales UK now has orders for more than 25 Thales 420 ILS systems to be supplied to the Ministry of Defence and Regional Airports in the UK. This order continues Thales UK's success in the regional airports market.
Liverpool John Lennon Airport is replacing its existing ILS/DME installation and chose Thales' latest generation equipment, enabling them to provide a CATIII landing capability.
Steve Hill, Vice President and Managing Director of Thales UK's air systems business, says: "This contract further increases our footprint in this market and is an acknowledgement of our capabilities in this area."
Keith Carr, Director of Thales UK's Chessington facility, which will be providing the systems, says: "Thales is extremely pleased to be able to provide the CAT III landing system upgrade which will enhance flight safety into Liverpool John Lennon Airport. Thales looks forward to a long term relationship with Liverpool John Lennon Airport and the Peel group."
Chris Kelly, Head of Air Traffic Services for the Peel Airports Group comments: "Liverpool John Lennon Airport is pleased to have selected Thales UK to supply and install a new CATIII ILS/DME system that will replace the current CATII ILS for runway 27. This upgrade continues the Airport Company's investment in improvements in its airfield infrastructure and is a part of a programme of work to offer ILS CATIII landing operations at the Airport."
Notes to editors:
1 The ILS system is an indispensable aid to approach and landing especially under poor weather and visibility conditions. The system provides pilots with information to enable guidance during descent and with deviation information from a defined approach path down to and along the runway surface.
2 DME systems provide the pilot with distance information between the aircraft and the location of the DME ground equipment.
