CONTACT
On 5th October, 2007, Thales CEO Alex Dorrian accepted a challenge to go ‘Back to the Shop Floor’ in a fundraising event for Marie Curie Cancer Care, co-sponsored by Persimmon Homes.

In a departure from his usual duties, Alex joined an engineering team at Thales UK's Communications business in Crawley where, after attending a team briefing, se set to work testing high power radio amplifiers, manipulating CAD drawings and hand-building some radio filtering components.

Alex Dorrian wasn't alone in his adventures. All around Thales, from Glasgow in Scotland to Templecombe in Somerset, senior managers - each hoping to personally raise at least £100 - rolled up their sleeves and got busy in the factory in aid of the Marie Curie Cancer Care fund.

"I had really good fun. It's an unusual way to raise money for a fantastic cause but it also showed me what an excellent job my teams do," said Alex.

One of Thales UK's officially supported charities; Marie Curie Cancer Care provides high quality, free of charge nursing to people suffering from terminal illnesses, giving them the choice of dying at home supported by their families. Thales has set itself the target of raising £100,000 for this worthy cause and staff in each of the 50-plus offices will all run different events in order to contribute.
