Thales delivers the first TETRA network to Jordan

19  June  2008
This nationwide network will meet all the country's defense and security requirements.

Launched at the end of 2006, the Jordanian project to develop a multi-force TETRA communication network was concluded this month with the system's official delivery. This project attests to the company's expertise in this field and its ability to design, deploy and install major secure communication networks within tight deadlines.

This nationwide network will provide a reliable, protected and easy-to-use communication service to Jordan's civil security and defense forces.

"Thales is extremely proud that the Jordanian government chose it to carry out this project,"

explains Jean-Michel Lagarde, Business Director for the Satcom and Security Network in the Thales Group's Land and Joint Division. "This project is of utmost importance for us in more than one way. First of all, facing the biggest players in the field, Thales won this project against a very competitive backdrop. This demonstrates the intrinsic qualities of the new TETRA over IP solutions offered by the Group. Secondly, this proves our ability to deploy within a few months a TETRA communications network on a countrywide scale. Finally, this clearly validates the Group's "dual" approach, which involves using civil technologies whenever feasible while guaranteeing a maximum level of security. This is an unquestionable advantage for customers, provided with open and recent technologies at a very competitive cost."

An efficient and economical solution
Jordan's government selected Thales' PMR solution to implement its entire nationwide TETRA network. Equipped with a distributed architecture "Qualified under Real Operating Conditions" and IP routing, Thales' solution provides the market's best level of reliability and interoperability at a low cost of investment and ownership.

Moreover, the "Multi-organization" functionality enables different user organizations to coexist on the same network (police, army, security forces, etc.) thanks to the solution's different native security solutions like class 1 to 3 encryption and dynamic key authentications.

DIGICOM25 (the full TETRA over IP communications network) is part of a range which uses IP transmission protocol over the infrastructure network. This is a highly distinctive feature. Developed for civil and military needs, this innovative equipment can use standard IP routers in place of proprietary switches. This means considerable savings in terms of both investment and operation.

In keeping with cost control requirements, the dispatch and fleet monitoring function is managed from a simple PC, using Windows-based software. This IP infrastructure solution from Thales has been highly successful with several customers.
