Over the years as a Simulator Hardware Commissioning Engineer I was fortunate to experience working on Simulator Training devices for Boeings, Airbuses and even F-16s. At the end of the year 2000, the Avionics department was recruiting 200 staff. I wanted to develop my knowledge of software and various aircraft systems further and felt this was possible in Avionics.
I had an interview and was accepted for the post as a software engineer. Personally I felt I had limited knowledge of software: at the time I had never owned a PC for use at home! Other Avionics engineers I had worked with gave me the encouragement that I could do the job. So, I took the plunge and have no regrets. I learn many new skills on a regular basis. The skills learnt in my previous job as a hardware commissioning engineer benefit the new department I work in when it comes to hardware related issues during the simulator integration phase.
