Thales, leader in passenger entertainment systems launches a new suite of connectivity solutions for the cabin. Called TopConnect, the offering includes Internet access,...
... IFE connectivity-based applications and GSM/ GPRS connectivity applications, which when combined with the Thales TopSeries IFE system, offers airlines the most comprehensive package of passenger services available today. As part of the TopConnect offering, Thales also offers a complete integration service.

"TopConnect is not just for passengers that bring onboard their laptop or phone, it is for everyone on the aircraft. Each traveler can connect to the outside world through the Thales IFE system," said Alan Pellegrini, Vice President and General Manager of Thales' IFE business. This capability brings new benefits to world travel by delivering up-to-date content. Passengers can connect to new onboard options such as popular live news web portals, headline news videos and the latest connecting gate information. For airline operations, TopConnect enables airlines to cost-effectively generate new incremental revenues through activities such as advertising sales.

The TopConnect solution consists of the Thales Swift broadband Satcom antenna and data server unit, connectivity server, wireless cabin network, and a communications manager to interface to the IFE system. TopConnect is compatible with other Satcom sub-systems and can be integrated with L-band services.

"This is an exciting time for Thales. The TopConnect solution supports proven swift broadband technology, which is recognized for its global coverage. Airlines can now offer a

consistent, affordable onboard experience to all passengers," Pellegrini added. At the Aircraft Interiors show, Thales will demonstrate a first ever swift broadband Sactom product fully operational for people to see and try. Through laptop or phone, the product demonstration is the real thing using the new INMARSAT I4 generation satellites.
