Through this program, Thales sees big opportunity to introduce new onboard services to passengers that carry personal electronic devices onboard. "It is a natural evolution to bring personal electronic devices and IFE systems together. Our system's internet-based network and connectivity solutions will eventually allow passengers to do in the air what they now do on the ground," said Alan Pellegrini, Vice President and General Manager of Thales' In-flight Entertainment business. Thales is implementing a seven-part strategy that introduces different ways to integrate personal electronic devices to the TopSeries IFE system. Some capabilities now flying include providing power to the handheld unit through the IFE system and viewing movies on the IFE seat display that are stored on the passenger device. Eventually, Thales anticipates passengers will be able to share content between the IFE system and their own devices.
