Thales, world leader in electronics, technology and systems that operate in the Defence, Aeronautical, Space and Security markets, was awarded the public tender for the Madrid-Valencia/Albacete AVE on the 27th of June, 2008. Spain's Railway Infrastructure Administrator (ADIF - Administrador de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias), a company dependent on the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, awarded the consortium formed by Thales and Dimetronic the Signalling, Telecommunication and Centralised Traffic Control work for the high-speed Madrid-Levante line. For both companies, the proceedings of this awarding principally include the carrying out of Signalling and Telecommunication works throughout the 447 km of rail, along the stretches from Madrid to Valencia and Albacete. This contract forms part of the investments approved by the ADIF to establish high-speed connections between the communities of Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, the Community of Valencia and the Region of Murcia.
Thales will provide signalling solutions, particularly the Electronic Interlocking System, LockTrac/Intersig L905E, which guarantees maximum security in train circulation. The company will also offer a multi-services' network for landline voice, data and video communications, a video surveillance and access control system as well as the maintenance of all installed systems for a period of three years.
The contract also includes the installation of Levels 1 and 2 of the ERTMS system, as well as the construction of the installations' technical buildings and energy-feeding systems.
According to Jesús Sanchez Bargos, Chief Executive of Thales Rail Signalling Solutions in Spain, "We are very proud to have been selected by ADIF for the construction of the Signalling and Telecommunication installations for the Madrid-Levante AVE, which represents one of the largest rail signalling works. This project strengthens Thales' position and world leadership in rail signalling systems. In addition, the company is also present in other projects underway throughout Spain."
