Prior to his appointment, Thierry was VP Research and Technology for the Thales Air Systems Division, position that he left in November 2005 to move to Fullerton (California, USA) as Senior Technical Director of the ThalesRaytheonSystems' Air Command and Control Systems Program (ACCS LOC1),
Thierry joined the Underwater Activities Division of Thales in 1980 as a hardware/software engineer in charge of the 2040 sonar display for the Royal Navy. Since, he led the task force to deliver in 12 months an Automatic Detection and Tracking System to the Japanese Navy and was an active contributor to the award of the sonar suite contract for the Australian Collins Class Submarine. At the end of 1987, he moved to Sydney to participate in the founding of Thomson Sintra Pacific.
Returning to France in 1991, Thierry led the team who completed the development of the Mustang signal/data processing machine and took the lead of the Digital Electronic Department of Thomson Marconi Sonar. In 1995, he was promoted Director of the Signal Processing Common Efficiency Team (CET) across the whole of Thales. In April 1997, Thierry moved to the Land & Joint Division and was seconded as Technical Director to the Midsco international Joint Venture in Wayne (New-Jersey, USA) to complete the development of the Link16 Low Volume Terminal MIDS. In 2000, Thierry took a break in his Thales carrier and created his own company XIOS, to exploit one of his patents and develop an inexpensive navigation system for divers. The September 11 crisis killed XIOS emerging market, and Thierry returned to Thales in April 2002 as VP Research & Development for the Business Group Air Defense (BGAD). His area of responsibility extended to the perimeter of the Air Defense Division when the BGAD and BGATM merged.
Thierry Brizard graduated as an engineer from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers (ENSAM) and Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Paris (ENST).
Thierry Brizard was appointed VP Research and Technology, Naval Division, in September 2007.
