Awarded to Thales in late 2006, this service contract for the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan is typical of new types of partnership formed to meet our customers strategic requirements. Under this contract, Thales provides NATO with secure end-to-end communication services to support ISAF operations in Afghanistan. Consequently, Thales provides, operates and maintains a complete network deployed to ISAF points of presence (POPs) in the country.
Thales considerably increases this network capacity recently. Actually, given the success of this project, Thales and the NC3A have also signed a series of major amendments to the SATCOM & CIS services to support ISAF extension contract. Signed at NATO HQ in Brussels, these extensions to the initial contract call for Thales to significantly increase the capacity of the network to accommodate 50% more users. In addition, Thales will assume new responsibilities as end-to-end logistics operator. This project further demonstrates the company's ability to deliver innovative service solutions in response to the unique operational requirements of each customer. Full-scale deployment of the network is scheduled for completion this year with more than 60 POPs in total.
