ISTAR
Thales is the European leader in the architecture, design and delivery of systems for Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions, with extensive experience and expertise in military capability design, systems integration and sensor technology make us a competent systems integrator and prime contractor. Thales was awarded a demonstration, Manufacture and Initial Support contract for the Watchkeeper programme worth £700m in August 2005 by the UK MoD. Thales' Watchkeeper Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) System will provide accurate, timely and cost-effective ISTAR , 24/7 and in all weather conditions. Watchkeeper is an example of Thales' commitment to providing excellence in ISTAR, and Thales' development of the systems represents a step change in UAV capability.

Avionics
Thales's avionics and mission systems provide vital capability on civil and military fixed and rotary wing platforms worldwide. The company is currently working with many of the world's leading aircraft manufacturers on next generation cockpit systems and technologies and is prime contractor on several Ministry of Defence upgrade programmes. In addition, Thales is a world-leader in the airborne satellite communications business.

Cabin Connectivity
Thales's aerospace division in the UK is a provider of cabin connectivity integration, offering equipment, systems and services that allow the passengers and crew to access the outside world during the flight. Examples include providing wireless access for laptops to be able to send e-mails and surf the web, providing a small Private Business Exchange (PBX) for a business jet and supporting mobile phone calls for voice and text using an on-board Pico-cell. These systems support the connectivity needs of thales In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) products.

Inmarsat BGAN (Broadband Global Aera Network) Service Distribution Partner

Thales signed an agreement to become a Distribution Partner for Inmarsat's Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) mobile satellite broadband service at the start of 2007. This is the first satellite communications service on offer from Thales UK.
