To be installed on Oksoy class minehunters and Alta class minesweepers, and related services. After three years of intense upstream efforts, Thales's Underwater Systems activity beat off competition from Atlas for the contract, which is for the supply of seven TSM2022 MK 3 N Hull Mounted Sonars (including one for training & maintenance) and a "customer support" contract covering maintenance and training for a period of 15 years.
This latest success is a sign of the customer's satisfaction and of the trust Thales Underwater Systems has built up with the Norwegian Navy and Ministry of Defence, both for the quality of its services and for the associated services offered, such as offsets and customer support. It also relies on the cooperation the Group has developed with its local partners: Kongsberg, the Umoe Mandal shipyard and the Fireco company.
Thales had already supplied another hull sonar, the TSM2023N, to the Norwegian Navy at the beginning of the '90s and the new agreement comes on the heels of the NNF and Flash NH90 array sonar contracts, strengthening Thales's position as a privileged supplier to the Norwegian Navy.
The TSM2022 MK 3, which has already proven its value at sea, is currently in service on the French Navy's Tripartite class minehunters. It has also undergone successful sea trials in connection with the modernisation of Belgian and Dutch Tripartite class minehunters.
