Thales is acknowledged as a world leader in the design and supply of mission critical systems for promoting the safety and security of people and places.
From complex transport systems to powerful encryption technology, and from advanced telecoms solutions through to full flight simulators,Thales is helping make the world a safer, more secure place.
A unique transport portfolio
Thales’s state-of-the-art technology and services for safety and security are the first choice for a wide range of transport customers. We have a taskforce of a 1,000 field engineers, for example, co-ordinated through a sophisticated command centre in Doncaster, which manages and maintains communications and security systems right across the UK rail network.
We are a leading partner of the special purpose company CityLink, which is equipping the London Underground network with a brand new, state-of-the-art communications infrastructure, and we’re providing real-time rail information systems, with integrated on-platform displays, staff displays and public address equipment, all over the UK.
Other high profile projects include integrated signalling and control systems on the Docklands Light Railway and on the Piccadilly, Jubilee and Northern lines, plus advanced supervision and control systems on the East LondonLine.
In addition, Thales played a lead role in designing and running National Rail Enquiries’ Online Rail Journey Planner which, with around one million visits every day, is one of the UK’s most important travel sites.
National security and resilience
Thales provides a comprehensive range of integrated intelligence and counter-terrorism solutions to help protect critical national infrastructures and events of all kinds. These end-to-end solutions are being used in the UK and around the world to enhance the security of airport operations, power stations, seaports, waterways, and rail and road systems.
The result? Every day, all over the world, thousands of organisations in government, defence, aerospace, banking, finance, energy, retail, transport and travel are trusting Thales for enhanced safety and security, and robust information management.
Simulation for safety and training
Thales’s simulation solutions play a crucial role in delivering security for land and air transport. With a range that includes everything from desktop training aids through to full mission simulators, our technology provides a key platform for developing professional skills in a wide range of civilian applications.
From information assurance to identity management
Thales is a long-standing Information Assurance (IA) partner of the UK Government and a strong supporter of its transformational agenda. With over 40 years of expertise in delivering IA through cryptographic products, services and solutions, we deliver end-to-end capability and effective through-life risk management, as embodied in CESG’s New Assurance Model.
Thales is also a world leader in the provision of identity management systems, having delivered end-to-end ID management programmes in 20 countries. Today, 70% of the transactions at ATMs and Point-of-Sale terminals are secured by Thales, as are 3.7 billion annual BACS transactions, worth inthe region of £1,000 billion. Then there are the world’s banks: more than half of them, together with the majority of the busiest exchanges, depend on our technology and services every working day.
Elsewhere, our technology is used to prepare data for issuing credit cards and PINs, to provide powerful authentication and identity management solutions, and to secure all kinds of electronic transactions. And that’s just the financial sector. Other customers rely on us:
– Wherever critical infrastructures need protecting, including major ports and power stations
– Wherever the very highest standards of security have to be combined with maximum flexibility
– Wherever the privacy, authenticity and integrity of information and transactions is critical
– Wherever sensitive information, personal data or sums of money are being moved
– To control the daily operations of every nuclear power station in the UK
