Thales and Tech Schools design competition kicks off!

Thales is partnering with the Ballarat, Bendigo, Casey and Yarra Ranges Tech Schools in Victoria to engage students in a design competition linked to the Thales vision to ‘make life better and keep us safer.’

The competition focusses on advanced sensor technologies and asks students in years 9 and 10 to think about how they can use sensor technology to address their decisive moment.

Students will work in teams of three to six in various roles such as a Solutions Architect, Designer and Marketing Manager to develop a solution which makes their community better/safer.

This week, the first stage of the competition commenced with a local Immersion Day which provided students with the opportunity to hear more about Thales from Thales graduates and staff, explore sensor technology and understand what’s involved in the competition.

Ashley Van Krieken, Director Yarra Ranges Tech School, said there was a lot of positive energy that came from the event.

“At the start of the day we had four teams who were definitely interested but on departure we now have eight or nine teams forming!”

One crucial component of the competition are our Grads, who will act as Thales Ambassadors as well as mentors for the students.

Of the first Immersion Day experience, at Yarra Ranges, Alexandra Andela, a Graduate Software Engineer said ‘the kids seemed very engaged with the competition and were interested to hear what Thales does.’

The competition will run through to November culminating with an awards event with students, teachers and Thales staff in attendance.
