Thales Australia’s Above Water Systems (AWS) Business has been formally recertified to the ISO55001:2014 certification

Although certified under these international standards since 2016, Thales AWS has recently achieved re-certification for the HUON Class Minehunter In Service Support Contract in Q1 2021, with Lloyds Register.  The MHC ISS Contract provides Asset Management Services including planning, engineering, logistics, configuration, maintenance and material management support services to the Royal Australian Navy's HUON Class Minehunters.

What is ISO?

ISO, which stands for International Organisation for Standardisation, is an independent, non-governmental international organisation with membership of over 165 national standards bodies.

They are the world’s largest developer of international standards that give market relevant, state of the art specifications for products, services and good practice. Developed through global consensus, they are a critical component of international trade and removing barriers to working across various countries; something Thales does daily.

What do ISO do?

Since they were founded in 1946, ISO have published more than 23000 standards covering areas including electrical engineering, military engineering, clothing industry and ship building and marine structures. The development of these standards reduces the need for national standards and benefits both major organisations and owner operators.

What is ISO55001 Certification?

ISO55001 identifies the requirements of a management system (for the management of Assets specifically) and clearly positions asset management as a key element of the broader business management system including, but not limited to, safety management, people management and financial management.

Why is ISO 55001 Certification so important?

Thales Above Water Systems are an Industry Leader in the Asset Management, providing 30 years of ship repair, engineering design and defect rectification to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).  The high availability of RAN platforms experienced by our CASG and RAN customers, demonstrate the effectiveness of Thales Asset Management practices. Adherence to the highest, and globally recognised, standards are critical. Not only does this re-certification ensure the Royal Australian Navy can have the utmost confidence in our work, but also reaffirms that we’re aligned with global standards of Asset Management.

What makes Thales ISO 55001 different?

Thales certified our MHC ISS Contract as our Asset, rather than the RAN’s platforms. This approach was recognised by the Asset Management Council in 2018, where Thales received an Innovation Award.

‘Achieving re-certification with Lloyds Register is a great achievement for the team and for the broader Thales Australia. It demonstrates that we perform to best Asset Management practice which results in consistently higher than contracted availability of the HUON Class Minehunters.’
