Slovenia relies on Thales to modernise 90 km of railway

The owner of Slovenian railway infrastructure - DRSI (Slovenian Infrastructure Agency) awarded a contract to the consortium comprising Thales and GH Holding.

Financed by European funds, this contract is part of the European transport infrastructure policy that aims to close the gaps between Member state’s transport networks, remove bottlenecks that still hamper the smooth functioning of the internal market and overcome technical barriers such as incompatible standards for railway traffic. It promotes and strengthens seamless transport links for passenger and freight and the development of multimodal transport until 2030.

The consortium will be working on railway infrastructure rehabilitation of two sections (90 km in total) that are part of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T). One section (Maribor Tezno to the Austrian border) is part of the Baltic Adriatic Corridor and the other section (Zidani Most to the Croatian border) is part of the Mediterranean Corridor.

Both lines will be equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 1, which is part of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS). On the line between the Hungarian and the Italian border this technology was successfully implemented by Thales and GH Holding. Together with this new project ETCS Level 1 will be implemented on the complete Slovenian part of the TEN-T network by Thales and GH Holding. A service level agreement secures the high quality maintenance of the installed system for the next 20 years.

The project underlines the strong position and expertise of Thales in Slovenia.
