    Key Responsibilities

    • The Technical Support Specialist responsibilities are outlined as follows:

    Key Skills and Experiences:

    This position requires a College certificate in Computer Science, Systems Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent.  As a minimum, the successful candidate must have two years of experience with networking, Windows 2003, customer support, training, and communication systems.  As well, prior knowledge of TCP/IP communications, XML, system management practices and system tools is desirable. In addition, the successful candidate must have the following skills:

    One (1) year experience installing, configuring, maintaining SANs

    One (1) year experience installing, configuring, maintaining VMware implementations

    • Identify, prepare and monitor all contract change proposals, requests for quotations (RFQs), change orders, claims notices, liquidated damages assessments, including the assembly and research of all necessary backup documentation, in accordance with Contract requirements and obligations.
    • Monitor contract compliance by Thales and the customer (e.g. schedule delays, out-of-scope work) and prepare appropriate contractual actions.
    • Initiate, expedite and ensure timely responses to correspondences and completion of documentation and estimates by the project team, Senior Management Board and internal departments, as required.
    • Assist Project Management in all activities relating to commercial matters, including but not limited to, internal RFQ processes, providing contract clarification, interpretation to support Thales’ business goals and timely generation of correspondence and weekly/monthly reports under the supervision of legal Counsel or Contracts Director.
    • Represent the Contracts Department in status review meetings with Customers and internal project review and operation presentations.
    • Represent the Contracts Department and support project Management and Marketing commercial/contractual negotiation matters with the Customer as assigned by Project’s Director and Legal Counsel. 
    • Identify and notify immediately of any contractual risk issues or exposure that arise. Participate in implementation of mitigation plan.
    • Liaise with company’s offices and directors, finance, legal and other corporate departments, as well as external legal and banking institutions as required as assigned by Legal Counsel.
    • Responsible for administration of contractual insurance, bonding, warranty, escrow and other contract requirements (e.g. Buy America, DBE, etc).
    • Conducts research and obtains backup documentation with respect to controversial issues; potential disputes, and makes recommendations thereon.
    • Travels to Customer’s facilities as required to represent Contracts in discussion of commercial / contractual issues.
     
    Key Skills and Qualifications:
     
    • Substantial years’ experience administering / negotiating / managing contracts, both client and supplier, in an international environment

    Position Title: Systems Engineering Specialist, Junior
    Location: Burnaby
     
    Job Purpose:
    Perform system operation activities independently or under supervision to deliver a high quality and safe guideway design, on time, at the lowest cost.  The Operations Design and Analysis specialist works within a team context to design a system that satisfies the overall system requirements.
     
    Key accountabilities:
     
    Technical:
    • Perform system analysis, modeling and simulation to specify the system performance, and verify the train control systems.
    • Assist in analyzing train characteristics and safety requirements to define the safe braking model.
    • Assist in analyzing guideway to define requirements for headway (passenger waiting time), safe train separation, interlocking requirements, new guideway elements and guideway designs to resolve operational conflicts.
    • Assist in delivering the project guideway application data, signal plan, crossover coordinates, track maps and guideway database to software groups. Ensure the guideway design is implemented in accordance with applicable standards and signaling principles.
    • Interface and build  working relationships with software and test groups to ensure timely analysis and resolution of in-house and field test issue.
    • Development, implementation and maintenance of relevant tools whether procured or internally developed.
     
    Management:
    • Assist marketing in the preparation simulations to support technical proposals.
    • Accurately report work progress and estimate to complete against work assigned.
    Safety:
    • Promote a safety culture where product safety is paramount
    • Ensure that safety is built into the design by early identification and resolution of safety related defects
     
    Key Skills and Qualifications:
    • B.Sc Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or equivalent
    • 0 – 2 years experience with generic railway signaling techniques, Automatic Train Control system specifications, and military and industry based standards and regulatory norms.
    • Strong planning and organization skills.
    • Strong technical writing and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Specification-driven hardware and software systems design and associated tools i.e Doors.
    • Mechanical & dynamic motion analysis.
    • Experience with software, modern software development methodology methods, processes, and tools
    • Testing and Troubleshooting of Electromechanical and software systems
