    Job Purpose:

    The employee contributes to IFE/Customer support organization at Thales Avionics Inc as Field Service Engineer (FSE) in North America, providing day to day on-site technical support and services to ensure proper operations and maintenance of Thales products, including and not limited to inflight entertainment (IFE) and avionics.  He/she is responsible for conducting field service missions (scheduled or unscheduled) to airline customers operating Thales products under his responsibilities.

     

    Reporting to the Customer Support Manager (CSM), the FSE troubleshoots and provides resolution to technical issues related to the aircraft In-Flight Entertainment System to the satisfaction of the Airline Customer, ensuring theIFE system performs according to contractual agreement.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing system data (including BITE, Repair Data & Line Maintenance History) in order to establish areas of concern and provide suggestions/solutions with a view to improve the overall reliability of the system.

    This role is vital in providing a technical interface between Thales and the Airline Customer and will include being accountable, working under one’s own initiative, being responsible, Customer focused and technically competent.

    Besides direct technical support on the systems installed onboard the aircraft, the Job holder shall also represent Thales Avionics Inc to either conduct or to make arrangements to meet customer requests such as training, documentation, supply chain issues and support performance reviews.

    Although the job holder is primarily to support airline customers in North America he may be called upon to provide support, from time to time when needed, to other airlines in North America or even around the world.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    Focusing on Customers

    ·    Provide timely in-airline and on-wing support on Thales products in terms of fly-along support, entry-into-service (EIS) support, Retrofits, Software Upgrades, in-service fault finding and diagnosis, corrective actions and maintenance planning.

    ·    Maintain customer satisfaction through accurate, detailed and timely responses to problems and queries ensuring correct diagnosis and resolution of complex software, hardware and systems problems.

    ·    Provide adequate tracking, reporting and visibility on issues relative to product performance.

    ·    Provides a high level of support to time sensitive issues such as problems with departing flights.

    ·    Ensure the correct software; hardware and database are installed on the aircraft.

    ·    Assist and/or train Airline personnel in the downloading of system and LRU software, content loading, maintenance functions, and other software related items as may be required.

    ·    Conduct investigations on the installed systems to assist and provide guidance to the Airline personnel in troubleshooting the system. 

    ·    FSE will oversee and provide guidance for removals/replacements of LRU (Under no circumstances is the FSE is allowed to remove/replace any LRU themselves – Only Certified Airline Personnel will conduct these tasks)

    ·    Maintain site office, company vehicles and support equipment as required.

    ·    Ensure timely renewal of Airport access pass and Airport driving permit.

    ·    Complies with all Aviation Legal, Safety and Health regulations.

    ·    Adaptability and flexibility regarding working out of hours/weekends/off duty days to support the Airline Operator is essential to the position.  Aircraft schedule dictates hours required.

    ·    Be able to travel on short notice to support customer locations (primarily domestic) sometimes for extended periods.

    ·    Some travel at short notice (domestic and/or international) may be required to support Fly Alongs and activities at Thales HQ in Irvine, CA.

    Position Title: Technical Support Engineer
    Location: Toronto
    Department: Software Engineering
     
    Job Purpose:
    Technical Support Engineer provides customer service and technical support to the engineering services function of the Customer Care Group. This includes technical support to the Customer Call Centre, implementation of Maintenance Contracts, delivery of field support functions, and management of large upgrade projects.
     
     
    Main Responsibilities:
     
    • Provide knowledgeable technical support to the Customer Call Centre and In-Site forum with fast response times to issues and increased accountability. This includes providing technical responses to customer inquiries and providing ‘on-call’ services.
    • Deliver field support activities including FCB implementation and troubleshooting where necessary.
    • Scheduling and performing site visits to assist customer in resolving technical issues. Attend customer interface meetings when and if requested.
    • Maintain and update technical information for upgrade projects.
    • Ensures configuration management is maintained consistency across projects.
    • Monitors/audits the testing process and ensures adequate and thorough testing is being planned and performed on all upgrade projects and maintenance contracts.
    • Support and provide technical input to Safety Committee on completed projects.
    • Support and provide technical input to customers on Thales’ ‘In-Site’ Forum.
    • Responsible for ensuring that all safety issues related to work performed are implemented as per company’s applicable safety processes and procedures.
     
     
    Key Skills and Qualifications:
    • B.Sc. in Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
    • 3+ years in site management experience.
    • Experience in delivering field support activities during upgrades in maintenance phase of a project.
    • Experience providing technical responses to customer inquiries and providing ‘on-call’ services.
    • Excellent knowledge of transit industry. Comprehensive knowledge/experience with Thales products will make you an ideal candidate.
    • Customer service and marketing/sales experience.
    • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
    • Enjoys working with people and has an outgoing approach.
    • Proven management and supervisory skills.
    • Understanding of commercial aspects (schedule and budgets) of project management.
