Thales congratulates TransLink on the successful opening of the SkyTrain Evergreen extension to the Millennium Line on December 2nd, 2016. The extension connects the Tri-Cities area to the SkyTrain network, and adds six new stations along 11 km.
The Evergreen extension represents the 7th incremental extension to the SkyTrain network since the original Expo Line entered service in 1985, making SkyTrain one of the longest driverless urban railway in the world with 79.6 km of length serving 53 stations.
This success story spans over three decades, since SkyTrain Expo Line was inaugurated on December 11th 1985, with Thales’ Communication-Based Train Control system, SelTrac™, the first of its kind in the world. Today, SelTrac™ rail signalling equips 100 per cent of the SkyTrain network, including the Canada Line. The Evergreen extension has added another remarkable piece to Metro Vancouver’s first-class transit system, in order to better serve passenger demand with high capacity, reliable and safe service. The delivery and commissioning of this extension was achieved without interruption to existing passenger service.
Thales’ SelTrac™ has changed the history of Train Control technology. Today, it serves more than 2,400 km of subway/light rail lines in 40 major cities.
