Thales continues to set the global standard for telecommunications satellites.
In 2007, Thales was chosen to supply the Palapa-D telecommunication satellite by Indosat, one of Indonesia's largest telecommunication networks and services providers. Based on the Spacebus-4000B3 satellite bus, this contractual win was the first time a non-American company gained a foothold in the Indonesian space market.
In 2014, Thales was awarded the contract to supply a new telecommunications satellite, the Telkom-33S to PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia TbK (PT Telkom), the only state-owned telecommunications enterprise and network service provider in Indonesia. This satellite will increase PT Telkom’s C-band capacity in Indonesia and South East Asia, and offers high-definition television (HDTV) and remote GSM/Internet services in Ku-band throughout Indonesia. Thales is charged with the design, construction, testing and in-orbit delivery of the satellite. Thales will also take charge of the launch and early orbital positioning phase (LEOP) and in-orbit tests (IOT), as well as supply control centre components and training of a team of engineers on-site.
