In 2013, East Japan Railway Company selected Thales to design a signalling system for the Tokyo Metropolitan Area. Thales is also developing Axle Counter Equipment and Predictive Maintenance Support System.

In 2013, Thales was selected by East Japan Railway Company (JR East) to design the Group’s Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system for the Tokyo metropolitan Area. And for the purpose to support improvement and simplification of maintenance work in railway operators, Thales is working on the adaptation of SIL4 certified Axle Counter Equipment for signaling system to the environment of Japanese Railway Operators and developing Predictive Maintenance Support System for wayside field equipment.
