Thales delivered the final standard for the maritime patrol aircraft as part of the MELTEM II programme, which covers six maritime patrol aircraft, three maritime surveillance aircraft and the provision of ten additional AMASCOS maritime patrol systems.
Thales’ other major defence-related successes in the country include:
- Thales’ 3D radar surveying military air space.
- Thales’ HF tactical radio used by Turkish Special Forces.
- Land Forces using Thales tactical SATCOM systems.
The Thales AMASCOS mission system provides the Turkish Coast Guards with an enhanced capability to monitor the Turkish Exclusive Economic Zone and Territorial Waters.
Thales fully supports SSM policy to develop a strong national defence industry. In all large-scale programs, the participation with the Turkish Industry is substantial, and provides for nearly 35% on the Meltem contract.
Besides Meltem II, Thales and the Turkish industry have been working closely together on several programs including 3D Radar Modernization, Helmet Mounted Sight Display with Aselsan.
Thales & Aselsan cooperated to design and develop a family of launchers to integrate Thales Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM) on Aselsan turrets together with the Aselsan Fire Control System, STAMP. It was announced in February 2015 that Thales and Aselsan signed a new cooperation agreement, which permits the continuation of the joint development of the same LMM missile system.
