Local cooperation

Thales’ strategy is to boost its local presence by establishing local partnerships. In Denmark, Thales already has a significant number of collaborations with local subcontractors and partners and will, as new contracts arrive, continue to reach out to local expertise.

    Description:

    In 2012, Banedanmark, the Danish rail infrastructure, awarded a consortium composed of Thales and Strukton Rail with a contract to upgrade the signalling system in Jutland, the Western part of Denmark. This latter consists of approx. 1.200 km of the Danish railway network (60%) to the new European ETCS level 2 System. Since then, Thales in Denmark has been working on the design and building of the system in close cooperation with Strukton Rail and Thales peers in Germany. Internally, the project is called the ‘F-Bane project’ and is currently in the deployment phase where the first line is installed and under test, scheduled to be in operation under 2018.

    We are currently looking for 1 Lab Test Engineer to join the test team in Thales Denmark A/S. Work location is in Copenhagen. Reporting to the Test and Commissioning Manager, the Lab Test Engineer will be responsible for, as part of a team of Test Engineers, to perform the tasks needed in relation to:   

    • Develop and produce test procedures based on requirements specifications
    • Perform tests in lab environment
    • Report test results to management
    • Elaborate existing lab environments
    • Test of signalling system in lab environments


    The Test Lab environment is based on IP technology and GSM-R / GPRS and equipped with Thales proprietary products interlocking, radio block central, field element controllers and train control center.   

    Thales has their own lab where tests are developed and performed, Thales perform also test in a Joint Test Lab together with our customer Banedanmark and the train on-board supplier Alstom. In the joint test lab mainly interface tests are performed between Thales system and the train on-board system and all other external interfaces that do exist to the Thales system.  

          

    Key Responsibilities and tasks:

    • Participate in developing Thales Denmark Test Team Lab test procedures.
    • Participate in performing the generic application test, interface tests and specific application test in lab.
    • Take a leading role in the Lab Test Team in terms of planning, quality assurance of the work and performance follow up.
    • Participate in basic training in the total Thales ERTMS system.
    • Specialize in defined key areas such as RBC/Interlocking, Network/Switches, Trackside equipment, Servers etc.

  • Maintenance System Operation Engineer - Jutland in Denmark

             

    We are looking for a Maintenance System Operation Engineer to join the Maintenance team in Thales Denmark A/S to be located in the Traffic Control Centre (TCC) in Fredericia. 

    Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance System Operation Engineer will be responsible for, as part of a team of Maintenance support engineers, to perform the tasks needed in relation to: 


    • Manning the Thales-Strukton Maintenance Service Desk in Fredericia 24/7 – 365
    • Being the specialist on Thales railway signalling products delivered in F-Bane West signalling project.
    • Specialist supervisor to first line maintainers


    This will be a very important position in order to provide a fully functional signalling system in Jutland according to the F-bane West contracts service level goals 

    The Maintenance System Operation Engineer will be educated in the new system in order to be able to take his/her tours as responsible maintenance attendance in the service desk. The Maintenance System Operation Engineer will also be assigned to some technical areas in which he/she shall obtain knowledge on a specialist level in order to both perform and support in relation to fault corrections.  

    Key Responsibilities and tasks: 

      

    • Participate in developing the F-Bane West maintenance sub project procedures prior to commissioning of the Early Deployment Line (From now to August 2018)
    • Participate in performing the Post Installation Check Out, Site Integration Test and Site Acceptance Test in Jutland from third quarter 2016 to Medio 2018
    • Act as maintenance attendance in the TCC in Fredericia from August 2018.
    • Act as field support engineer in Jutland from August 2018

    • Participate in performing the Pre- FAT, Pre-test, SIT and SAT test in Jutland from Q3 2017 to end of 2022.

    • Participate in performing verification and validation activities according to given instructions and checklist (Validation of signalling layouts, hardware configuration, drawings, etc)

    • Participate to verification and validation inspections in different project phases to ensure reliability in the verification activities performed, with main focus on test activities performed in Denmark
    • Report and evaluate any non-compliance defects detected during the verification and validation activities
    • Liaise with the other disciplines, internally and towards customer, partners and suppliers (Engineering, Development, Test and Commissioning, Safety, etc.) to ensure consistency of deliverables
    • Perform development actions with the team members to increase their technical knowledge as well as their professional development

    We are currently looking for a Maintenance Project Manager to join the Maintenance Department of the F-Bane project in Thales Denmark A/S. 


    Reporting to the General Project Manager, the Maintenance Project Manager will be responsible for driving the Maintenance Preparation Sub-Project (MPSP) in the F-Bane Denmark project to successful completion with two main goals: 

    • Be ready for commissioning of the Early Deployment Line North in May 2018
    • Ensure an efficient maintenance of the system for the next 10 to 3 years.

     Key Responsibilities and tasks:

    • Overall management of all the maintenance activities until the MPSP is approved and during the start of the maintenance execution.
    • Prepare, develop and manage the MPSP Sub-Schedule. Maintain the MPSP schedule and align with the Schedule manager as needed.
    • Collaborate with the customer. Lead all discussions with the customer maintenance manager.
    • Obtain approval of the Maintenance Demonstration Test. (MDT)
    • Define the maintenance organisation, concept and practical arrangements to build up towards maintenance execution
    • Define and deliver the maintenance process manual
    • Define logistics and spare part strategy for the maintenance execution.
    • Plan resources for the project and for the maintenance execution
    • Risk management, mitigation and control: Keep risk register updated with the maintenance team and participate in monthly risk-management meetings with the project-management team.
    • Give clear directions to the maintenance team members
    • Main point of contact to the back-office maintenance team.
    • Work with and guide the back-office maintenance team in order to finalise the MPSP project
    • Work with the back-office maintenance team to define the 3 levels of maintenance.
    • Weekly alignment with the remaining of the project-management team
    • Define and keep budget under control: Keep budget on track and report deviations if needed
    • Collaborate with the other departments to ensure that maintenance is taken into consideration during design and installation.
    • Manage the maintenance setup to ensure fulfilment of the service level goals
    • Give timely input on maintenance to the monthly project report.
    • Ensure that contract obligations are fulfilled and that maintenance concept is in line with the contract
    • Responsible for Health and Safety within maintenance

    Skills and experience: 

    • Experienced project manager within the rail industry
    • Strong people management skills
    • Strong negotiation skills
    • Knowledge on local laws and conditions for working in the railway environment
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills with ability to adapt message content depending on audience
    • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team over several countries
    • Good knowledge of Signalling and Communication systems.
    • Experience within maintenance execution or maintenance projects

    Description:

    In 2012, Banedanmark, the Danish rail infrastructure, awarded a consortium composed of Thales and Strukton Rail with a contract to upgrade the signalling system in Jutland, the Western part of Denmark. This latter consists of approx. 1.200 km of the Danish railway network (60%) to the new European ETCS level 2 system. Since then, Thales in Denmark has been working on the design and building of the system in close cooperation with Strukton Rail and Thales peers in Germany. Internally, the project is called the ‘F-Bane project’ and is set to transfer to the maintenance phase by 2021. 

     

    We are currently looking for a Crossing Discipline Manager to join the technical department in Thales Denmark A/S. Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Crossing Discipline Manager will be responsible for the design and engineering of level crossings in the F-Bane project WEST. 


     
    Key Responsibilities and tasks: 
     
    • Liaise with Banedanmark’s technical representatives related to level crossing, passenger warning and staff crossing design, engineering or deployment in the signalling programme and on-site in Jutland 
     
    • Design of functionality for the level crossing, passenger warning system and staff crossing in the F-Bane project West 
     
    • Collaboration with Thales Germany and sub-suppliers to establish common technical solutions 
     
    • Definition and engineering of the crossing parameters to configure specific level crossings according to the operational requirements 
     
    • Integration of civil works, power supply and interlocking site specific engineering 
     
    • Resolution of special Engineering cases in cooperation with the Engineering team 
     
    • Support of the installation, test and commissioning team during the deployment phase 
     
    • Support of the technical and safety approval for crossings 
     
    Skills and experience: 
      
    • Technical degree Electrical Engineering or similar 
     
    • Significant experience in the field of railway signalling and railway operation 
     
    • Significant experience in the design and engineering of level crossings, passenger warning systems and staff crossings 
     
    • Ability to read signalling drawings and relay drawings 
     
    • Proficiency in using MS Office 2010 
     
    • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment 
     
    • English and Danish fluency in reading, understanding and writing 
     
    • Knowledge of the German language is a plus 
     
    • Readiness to travel to supplier and project locations approximately 20 days per year
