We give customers confidence in their decision-making process by delivering intelligence from a wider range of inputs.
Thales in the UK in partnership with the Royal Navy
Thales in the UK is the principal supplier of Electronic Warfare (EW) equipment, including the first digital wideband RESM solution, to the UK Royal Navy’s surface and submarine flotillas as well as exporting to overseas naval and land forces.
Providing a clearer electronic picture in an increasingly complex maritime environment
Radar Electronic Surveillance equipment is an essential sensor in any modern naval platform, passively providing situational awareness, threat identification (ASMD) and electronic intelligence (ELINT) gathering capability.
But the maritime electromagnetic environment (EME) has become more congested due to an explosion in civilian communications and multifunction emitters, making threat detection increasingly more difficult.
- To counter this change in the environment, Thales in the UK has upgraded the Royal Navy’s surface fleet capability with a UK technology breakthrough via a new suite of fully digital Radar Electronic Support Measures (RESM):
- Enhanced capability permitting the simultaneous detection of multiple threats in the congested EME,
Unique direct radio frequency (RF) sampling technology via a digital antenna, providing unparalleled performance. Equipping the Type 45 destroyer with an ISR suite for the future HMS Daring, the first of the Royal Navy’s Type 45 destroyers, has entered operational service fitted with new digital technologies.
Thales in the UK has developed an export variant of the system, Vigile D, which was launched in October 2012.
