The contract modernised Oman’s current navigation surveillance capabilities, contributing towards a considerable increase in flight safety. The recent air traffic growth in the Persian Gulf region has led to a crucial need for modernisation of the Sultanate of Oman’s transport infrastructure, along with Oman’s ambition to increase tourism.
Thales has supported Oman’s Ministry of Transport& Communications and Directorate General of Meteorology & Air Navigation (DGMAN) for more than 20 years, supplying reliable navigation aids as well as providing field services and operational support.
In June 2015, Thales announced that Oman Air chose the Thales AVANT IFE for its new planes. This announcement covers a total order of 16 B737, three A330s, and six B787 representing the newest and first Boeing wide body fleet being delivered to Oman Air.
Oman Air will feature the AVANT state of the art Android system and Thales award winning Touch PMU handset. Passengers will have access to a wide selection of on-demand entertainment delivered through a passenger experience interface developed specifically with Oman Air. AVANT has been selected by 19 airlines; more than 130 aircraft are flying with the AVANT system with total orders exceeding 500 aircraft.
The AVANT solution is available on all new generation Boeing and Airbus platforms. 750,000 passengers per day across 75 partner airlines use Thales InFlyt Experience systems, making Thales one of the most successful providers of in-flight entertainment systems in the world.
