Growth in the Emirati region has allowed Qatari airline Qatar Airways to expand at a rapid pace. As a result, aerospace-related sales in the region have rocketed, leading to a sharp increase in the demand for Thales avionic products. Thales is now recognised as a key partner for aerospace solutions serving a wide range of customers, with many contracts agreed in the past 7 years:
- In 2012, Thales and Qatar Airways jointly announced the grand opening of a new technology research, development and training centre at the prestigious Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP). This technical laboratory currently houses state-of-the-art IFEC (in-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity) equipment that supports software and application prototyping, content integration, system level testing and training.
- Since 2009, Thales has been providing the Group’s IFEC system and Head-Up Displays for 37 of Qatar Airways’ Airbus A320 fleet and 60 of their Boeing 787s. The airline has additionally awarded Thales with a contract to supply the latest generation of the Group’s IFEC system (AVANT) for 13 A380s, 80 A350s and 50 A320NEO. The A350s will also be fitted with Thales Head-Up displays.
