Defence

Whether designing fire-control radar systems, advanced multi-static sonars or cyber-protected transmission networks for safer skies, Thales delivers solutions that protect states, cities and critical infrastructures.

Thales’ cooperation with the Polish defence industry involves e.g.  the development and manufacturing of PR4G tactical radios. Another major element of cooperation in Poland in 2001 was the conclusion of a contract for the modernisation of three Orkan-class missile ships, which were equipped with a modern TACTICOS Combat Management system. In March 2014, Polish Ministry of National Defence signed a contract with Thales for the delivery of an integrated combat management system along with the associated works for the ORP Ślązak patrol vessel. In 2023, Thales signed a contract to equip the Polish Navy MIECZNIK frigates with the TACTICOS combat management system, sonars, infrared sensor and radars providing the warships with multiple functions for detection, identification, command and control and decision making.

Aerospace

Since 2012, Thales has also been present on the Polish aviation market, when LOT Polish Airlines decided to expand their fleet by purchasing a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. Boeing Dreamliners are equipped with In-flight Entertainment systems (IFE) produced by Thales.

A special Thales line maintenance station, Warsaw OBS Station, has been established at Okęcie in order to perform any necessary on-going repairs and maintenance of the IFE system. Thanks to technicians from Okęcie passengers flying every day from Warsaw to cities such as New York, Chicago, Toronto, Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing, and many others, can enjoy the latest movies, music, games, and news during their flights. Each passenger is able to check his or her flight status on an on-going basis and receive all instructions concerning flight safety. Warsaw OBS Station is the only Thales station in the world to provide maintenance of business class seats.

Transport

Thales has played a major role in ensuring Poland’s rail network. For a number of years, the company has been involved in implementing the latest rail signalling technologies, with the first major project completed being the Poznań Railway Node. Thales systems control railway traffic on a part of the line, which is over 1000 km long. On another 1500 km of the track, Thales is implementing modern rail signalling systems.

Systems and devices offered by Thales are also used by the Railway Institute. Thales built the ETCS level-1 system on the test rail track in Żmigród. The investment broadens the testing capabilities in the certification processes conducted by the Railway Institute.
