Thales @ Dubai Airshow: Industry, Innovation and Education

This year’s Dubai Airshow has seen Thales continue its drive to be a trusted local partner of our customers within the UAE and beyond. Our continued innovation within the fields of AI, big data, cybersecurity and connectivity has seen our portfolio continue to grow as well as nurture existing customers.

In the UAE, we have aligned ourselves with Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 and UAE Vision 2020 to support the country across three key pillars: Industry, Innovation and Education.

As part of the Group’s industrial strategy, earlier this year we launched Thales Emarat Technologies, part of the Tawazun Economic Program. The entity is 100% owned by Thales Group and will focus on centres of excellence for critical systems such as radar, radio communications and a variety of defence and digital aerospace technologies. Thales Emarat Technologies will focus on the development of local engineering capabilities and will foster local partnerships and cooperation with industrial stakeholders.

The recently inaugurated company, EDGE, will be the first of these key partnerships. The company will enable the localisation of specific maintenance and support operations closer to customers, thus improving response times and flexibility in customer care.

An example of Thales innovation in the region is symbolised through a partnership with the Aviation XLab, marking a long-term partnership between Emirates and four other global aviation giants, Airbus, Collins Aerospace, GE Aviation, and Thales, and supported by the Dubai Future Foundation. Aviation X Lab, the ambitious aviation-specific incubator that brings some of the largest global pioneers under one umbrella, was unveiled at Area 2071 in October 2019.

Within the Aviation XLab, Thales is displaying its ‘Cockpit of the Future’ – a powerful technological innovation that presents how cockpits may look like in 2035, with the objective to allow airlines to both fly safer and more efficiently.

A key global strategy for the group is to continue to support educational institutions in the countries in which we operate. This is none more so evident than in the UAE where key Thales Group members met with senior officials from the government to discuss education more broadly. Thales’s commitment to the UAE and the wider Middle East is inherent in our work and our approach. We have signed a number of MoU’s across the region between universities and other educationally led institutions such as, the Emirates Aviation University, Khalifa University as well as the establishment of the Thales Cybersecurity Hub in Dubai.

The region and in particular, the UAE continues to be at the forefront of digital innovation. This ambition along with Thales’s drive for innovation, industry and education, will go some way in helping create and establish a sustainable knowledge-based economy for future generations.
