Girls’ Day at Thales in Germany – Inspiring girls to take up technical professions through exciting projects and hands-on technology

The annually-held event Girls’ Day – Future Prospects for Girls – took place on April 26 all over Germany. The aim of the event is to provide an insight into the interesting possibilities of technical professions and to inspire the young girls to take up an apprenticeship or obtain a degree in this field. It is also the ideal setting to get to know technology companies like Thales Deutschland and to learn how we can provide real added value for people and society – because our teams work every day to make the world a safer place for all of us.

Thales Deutschland has been supporting this project for many years now – and yesterday the company again invited young women to Ditzingen and Arnstadt to spend an exciting day in a high-tech company. A total of 13 girls took the opportunity to get an insight into Thales Deutschland’s business activities and to find out about our training and study possibilities in the technical field.

“Girls’ Day offers us an excellent platform to introduce our company’s diverse technology-oriented job and development opportunities to young women,” explains Arnold Sachs, Head of Professional Education & University Relations at Thales Deutschland. “When we interview young people for our training and study places, we always make sure we have a balanced proportion between girls and boys”.

“We’re delighted that we were able to introduce the girls to our technical professions today – and the excellent career opportunities in this field!

A small technical project was once again a main attraction, this year under the motto “Experience and Touch Technology.” The girls carried it out with the help of the current trainees and dual students. This gave them the opportunity to gain practical experience, to try their hand at technical matters and to learn about the various professional career options at the same time.
Our Impressions will give you an idea of the girls’ keen interest in what we offered them and the fun they had!

We look forward to receiving your application! As a global player with major international projects, one of our great strengths lies in the diverse skills of our employees. We don’t talk “equal opportunities” – we practise it by actively promoting diverse teams – and this is also a main aspect of our personnel selection. It is important to us to inspire young people to take up technical professions – and we encourage applications from everyone including of course young women at the start of their careers.

Gender diversity practiced actively

Thales has intensively addressed the issue of diversity, in particular equal opportunities for women and men. This is firmly anchored in our corporate strategy and we take appropriate measures to attract qualified women in a targeted manner, to support them with the shaping of their careers in the company and to ensure equal opportunities for newcomers, career opportunities and remuneration.

Thales Deutschland is also involved in numerous local projects in addition to our Group-wide programs and initiatives. We not only participate in the annual Girls’ Day, we are also a pact partner of the nationwide initiative ‘Let's get into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and a funding partner of the ‘YOUNG WOMEN LEADERSHIP scholarship program’ of the SYNK Business School.

“In the past two years, we have developed and implemented many ideas with our ‘WomenTogether’ initiative – this increases the attractiveness of our company, especially for women, and also promotes equal opportunities,” says Petra Mörsfelder, Diversity Manager at Thales Deutschland. “We have introduced a mentoring program for women and awareness training for managers, for instance. Then we have specific training for employees to support them in their careers and comprehensive offers for a good work-life balance, which of course benefit female and male employees alike.
