Cyber

Cyber Security Risk Assessment and Management

Cyberspace presents a broad range of external and internal threats to your organisation and assets. Following recent high-profile breaches with severe consequences, cyber now heads the risk agenda of many organisations, particularly those within the Critical National Infrastructure.

Our consultants will identify, describe and explain to you those risks which are specific to your industry and your situation. Assets determined to be at risk will be identified and inventoried.

Our team will define what those risks are, work out how likely they are to happen, and assess their impact on your business. Guided by your risk appetite, we will create a risk management strategy, which will determine how you categorise and treat individual risks.

Now that you know and understand the risks you face, we will work with you to develop the business case for addressing them per the risk management strategy.

Controls are a cornerstone of your defensive strategy. The key challenge is to ensure they do not hinder your organisation or prevent your staff performing their work. Our experienced, multidisciplinary team will review, enhance and replace where necessary existing controls, allowing you to shape and optimise your overall approach and policy.

Human Factors

Thales is at the forefront of human factors analysis. For over 25 years, we have been integrating human factors into the design of complex, technology-based systems and processes, helping organisations to improve performance and efficiency. We are an ideal fit for those for whom enhanced human performance, usability, manpower optimisation, safety and cyber security are critical.

The human element is a contributory factor in 95% of cyber security incidents. Defence strategies which primarily focus on technology, only provide partial protection against attack. There is a clear need in the cyber security market for a more rigorous approach. Thales has developed a unique methodology - our Cyber Human Error Assessment Tool (CHEAT) - which assesses and mitigates human errors as part of cyber vulnerability investigations and post incident investigations.

We specialise in ensuring that technology and processes are developed in order to maximise usability and minimise the risk of human error. We do this by integrating human factors considerations into the system from the ground up through the use of our own bespoke tools, such as CHEAT, as well as established methodologies and processes. As a result, we will enable you to increase user acceptance, enhance system efficiency, improve situational awareness, optimise manpower and reduce costs.

We offer CIEHF accredited expertise in the following areas:
  • Task and workload analysis
  • Manpower optimisation
  • Human-computer interface design and usability testing
  • Workstation and workplace (control room) design
  • Human Reliability Analysis (HRA)
  • Training Needs Analysis (TNA)
  • Standards development and application
Whether you need to introduce new technology and processes or optimise how your people utilise existing systems, Thales's Cyber and Consulting business is the trusted expert in the successful management of human-technology interfaces.

Systems Engineering

The systems services from Thales's Cyber and Consulting business aim to help organisations understand their customers’ needs and to support the procurement and delivery of upgraded or new technology driven solutions that meet those needs.

To achieve this, we elicit and capture the customers’ needs in a way that does not prescribe a particular technology solution. Once the customer needs are understood we analyse them and, in collaboration with the organisations subject matter experts, and propose a number of conceptual solution options.

Often this requires market research and collaboration with suppliers. As conceptual solutions are identified we establish the criteria to determine the relative merit of the solution.

When combined with our Capability Optimisation services, we can also evaluate the business benefits of the technology solutions and develop a sound business case for investment.

Safety

The public needs to know that they’re safe, always.

That’s why laws change, why technologies evolve, and why safety demands on your group will only increase. Can you continue to keep people safe in a rapidly changing legislative context?

Our experts track changing safety norms across the globe – we even design some of them – meaning that we are uniquely positioned to ensure that you find value in delivering safety excellence.
