Thales is recognised as one of the top 100 leading innovating companies in the world. We are pioneers in integrating transportation systems to meet every requirement and environment. We focus on mission-critical electronic solutions and continuously invest to improve technologies. We help transport and infrastructure operators to maximise their return on investment by optimising their operational performance. Thales helps ground transport operators meet growing demand for increased capacity and efficiency, and allows more passengers and goods to reach destinations faster, safer and at less expense.
Thales supports the UK’s major cities in attracting global business and providing cleaner, safer and more efficient transport systems for a growing population.
Advanced electronics for smarter transport systems
Thales offers the most extensive portfolio of advanced electronics for ground transportation, covering signalling, supervision, communications, passenger information, security, fare collection systems and services.
Thales is a global provider of:
- Signalling systems SelTrac®, FieldTrac® and LockTrac®
- The European Train Control System (ETCS) for mainline rail
- Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) for urban rail
- Integrated communication and supervision systems for road and rail
Destination: multi-modal travel
For seamless door-to-door journeys within and between major cities, better integration between different modes of transport is vital. We provide the equipment and project expertise to help this happen, and to provide the personalised, real-time information passengers need to plan and execute smarter journeys.
Meeting economic and environmental requirements
Transport operators are under increasing pressure to cut costs and achieve carbon reduction targets. Many of those responsible for UK transport infrastructure turn to Thales to help them find the best ways to reduce energy use – or use cleaner alternatives – and transform their business efficiency.
With Thales on board, they can work with confidence towards genuinely seamless movement of passengers and goods, using enhanced road and rail systems through multi-modal transport hubs. This means faster, safer, smoother journeys and lower costs, as well as significant energy savings and reduced CO₂ emissions.
Proven success that leads us into the future
One of the world’s largest rail re-signalling programmes made it possible to move huge volumes of passengers safely and efficiently through the London Underground system and on the DLR during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. During the 16 days of the Olympics, 7.2 million passengers were carried on the DLR – up 100% on normal levels; on 3 August 2012, day seven of the Games, the DLR carried over 500,000 daily passengers – its busiest day ever.
The insight and innovation required to achieve this, has established Thales as the ‘go-to’ provider for ongoing ‘Smart Cities’ projects and initiatives to create multimodal transport hubs. We're here to innovate with our customers, to build smarter solutions, to master and grow complex transport networks and to deliver services that will modernise the infrastructures of the UK’s cities to meet tomorrow’s needs.
