Thales kicks off LIMA 2019 with a flying start!

We couldn’t have started LIMA any better!

On the very first day of the event, we had the honour to host Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed on our stand where he presented us with an award from the Ministry of Defence for the ‘Most Outstanding Industrial Collaboration Programme’. We were recognised for our contribution to furthering Malaysia’s defence offsets policy, notably for the AV8 and ForceSHIELD programmes where we’ve been proactive in developing local capabilities and expertise of the defence forces through technology, knowledge transfer and training. The award is the first of its kind being presented to a foreign multinational so you can imagine how proud we are!

Yesterday morning, we were also excited to witness the launch of the second generation of military VHF radio, the TRC 5200. Completely designed and developed in Malaysia by Sapura Thales Electronics (STE), a joint-venture with Thales and Sapura, the radios were also unveiled by Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir. The first generation of the handheld radios was a resounding success with over 5,000 units sold worldwide.

In addition to that, we also hosted several meetings with key government figureheads today. Malaysia’s Minister of Home Affairs, YB Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Muhyiddin bin Haji Mohd Yassin visited our stand and was given a tour of our air defence and air surveillance solutions on display.

We were privileged to also host Deputy Minister of Defence, YB Senator Liew Chin Tong who took a closer look at our civil and military solutions.

Malaysia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Syed Saddiq, also came by our booth to understand our involvement in building the next generation of talents for the country.

We certainly started day one on a high note. Come visit us this week at B492 and we’ll be happy to show you around.
