Within a very short timeframe, every EU member state will need to offer all its citizens a Digital Identity Wallet. This is one of the main outcomes of the recent evolution to the eIDAS regulation for electronic identification and trust services in the bloc. With eIDAS 2, the EU Commission intends to make cross-border e-ID a reality. But it also creates a huge opportunity to transform the delivery of, and access to, modern digital services.
Encouraging swift adoption will be key to realising the compelling benefits of the European Digital Identity Wallet (EDIW). To get the offer right, stakeholders need to develop a clear understanding of citizens’ current attitudes to Digital ID, and their expectations of the new EDIW.
To this end, Thales recently undertook a detailed survey of citizens across the EU. The results offer an invaluable insight into how governments and their partners can best deliver their contribution to a single Digital ID for the people of Europe.
