Thales Deutschland has been an established partner of the German Navy for many years and supplies high-tech solutions for marines of many other countries. At the sites in Wilhelmshaven and Kiel, specialists are working on technologies that efficiently support naval forces at sea. Customers also take advantage from the extensive know-how of other Thales Group subsidiaries.
In the future the navy must be capable of three dimensional sea combat within the entire intensity spectrum. With its ability for adaptation to different missions, a new type of a multi-purpose battleship (MKS 180) is intended to meet a multitude of tasks globally such as patrolling sea space, humanitarian aid, support for special forces or support during emergency rescue operations. A wide range of weapons systems and protection components within the entire intensity spectrum characterize such a multi-purpose battleship. It is not only aligned for missions of low and medium intensity but also suitably resilient in high intensity missions. It will be suitable for missions above and below sea, in the air and on land and be equipped with the various specific capability packages for these purposes.
Maritime solutions, which are also suitable for a project like MKS 180, represent a major focus of Thales Germany in the field of defense. These also include weapon control and command systems such as TACTICOS and communication and sensor solutions.
- This unique achievement was the highlight in Formidable Shield 2017, an integrated air and missile defence exercise organized by the US Navy’s Sixth Fleet in the Hebrides test range in the Atlantic Ocean.
- Thales in Germany and the Netherlands have successfully been cooperating closely for decades. This is demonstrated through numerous maritime development and integration projects as well as the cooperation in the technical and logistical support for all Thales systems used by the German Navy.
- The weapon control and command system is at the heart of each navy frigate and corvette. With the TACTICOS basic technology, Thales has a FüWES based on an architecture developed by Thales for a fully distributed command system.
- Next to terror attacks, ballistic missiles are amongst the real threats for strategic targets across the world. Globally deployable BMD-enabled defence systems against such threats are mandatory.
