Supporting our Service Communities
Thales in the UK employs over 900 members of the Service Community, including Veterans, Reservists, Service Families and Cadet Volunteers. With a long-standing commitment to honouring and supporting service leavers, we provide meaningful career pathways and dedicated support networks to help these valued individuals transition successfully into civilian roles.
Bridging military service and civilian careers
The transition from military to civilian life represents a significant change for service personnel and their families. Beyond finding new employment, it requires adapting to different workplace cultures, translating specialised skills into civilian contexts, and establishing new support networks. Thales in the UK has developed comprehensive programmes that address these challenges directly.
Building community through outreach and partnerships
The Royal British Legion Industries (not to be confused with the Royal British Legion) is home to the “Tommy” and provides life-changing support to the UK’s Armed Forces community every day. Since 1919, the RBLI has helped thousands of veterans and their dependents including those with disabilities. The annual Great Tommy Sleep Out (GTSO) award-winning challenge raises vital funds and support for veterans experiencing homelessness. In our first year of involvement in March 2025, Thales teams across all four nations raised £17,500 and increased awareness of homelessness – a societal issue disproportionately affecting veterans.
Each Thales in the UK employee gets 24 hours of volunteering time, many of whom support service charities such as the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, Erskine Hospital, Combat Stress, Royal British Legion Industries and Fighting With Pride. But our commitment extends beyond our own employment practices to broader engagement with the veteran community. For example, Thales Reservists and Adult Cadet Force volunteers also get an extra two weeks volunteering time to enable them to meet their voluntary roles.
