The transportation activities of Thales in Austria date back to the early days of railway engineering. Since then, the company has expanded successfully into new international markets while constantly maintaining a presence in Austria.

Since 2010, Thales has extended its footprint in various other areas including security for critical infrastructures, space, rail and air transportation. From Austria, Thales addresses the needs for Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia and Albania. In Austria Thales employs 400 people.

The head office of Thales Austria is located in Vienna. The relevance of the Hungarian and Bulgarian markets is underlined by local offices in these countries.

Local cooperation

To be able to best react on developments in the ground transportation section Thales supports and contributes to important Austrian associations and organisations: Austrian Traffic Telematics Cluster (ATTC), Federation of Austrian Industry (IV), Austrian Electrotechnical Association (OVE), Austrian Traffic Science Association (ÖVG) and Association of the Austrian Railway Industry (VBI). In addition to the membership at the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKO) Thales is also a member of the French-Austrian Chamber of Commerce (CCFA) in Austria.

As a member of the Association of Austrian Space Industries (Austrospace), the Austrian Security Committee (KSÖ) and the WKO consortium Security and Economy (ARGE Sicherheit und Wirtschaft) Thales is also active in the Security, Defence and Aerospace sector.

In Austria Thales pushes innovations through participating in several research projects. Strong partnerships with research centres, like SBA Research and FFG (The Austrian Research Promotion Agency) in relation to participations in several KIRAS (Austrian aid programme for security research) projects are crucial to Thales.

To prepare for the future, a close relationship with Universities and advanced technical colleges (FH) is a major key factor. In Austria and Hungary, Thales is attracting talents through several job fairs and lecturing activities. Moreover, the open-house days for students and the Thales Trainee Programme are a great opportunity for young professionals to learn more about the company and join the Thales Team.
