In February 2015, Sam Keayes was appointed VP Secure Communications & Information Systems, part of the leadership team of Thales Australia & New Zealand. In May 2016, Sam also took on the leadership of the Ground Transportation Systems business.
Prior to his arrival in Australia, Sam operated as VP Security & Consulting, leading Critical Infrastructure Protection, Surveillance & Protection, Network Security, Cyber Security and Consulting businesses in the United Kingdom. Sam joined Thales in 2007, initially serving on the board of Thales UK (£1.5bn sales) as VP Strategy & External Relations, responsible for corporate strategy, mergers & acquisitions and developing relationships between Thales UK and government, parliament and industry partners.
Earlier in his career, Sam has operated as both a management consultant and as a public servant. His varied career has taken him to Sierra Leone, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, the US & Afghanistan - and has exposed him to a range of change management, policy, resource, communications and ministerial support roles, including as the chief media spokesman for the UK Ministry of Defence. Sam has also worked in the voluntary sector in East Africa.
Sam has an MA from St John’s College, Cambridge University, an MBA from Cranfield University and has served as trustee of the Royal United Services Institute. Sam is currently residing in Sydney, where he enjoys family life, cricket and other outdoor activities.
