Overview

Thales has been present in Singapore for over 40 years, providing state-of-the-art solutions for customers in the aerospace, defence, security and transportation (S&T) domains. Thales today employs over 600 people in the country.

The Group has grown from strength to strength through:

  • Building up local industrial capabilities in avionics production & Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO)
  • Enhancing its competencies in the fields of transportation and security
  • Contributing to the local Defence and Research & Development (R&D) eco-system

Key Highlights

Commitment to Research & Technology
Thales is strongly committed to further Singapore’s goal as a regional centre for innovation. In Singapore, Thales runs a Research & Technology (R&T) centre with the aim of complementing and leveraging Singapore’s strong eco-system as a research and development hub. As Thales’s only corporate research centre in Asia, the centre develops cutting-edge technical solutions to meet local requirements and consequently enhances Thales’s product portfolios. As the Singapore-based platform for localising Thales technologies, it facilitates the transfer of technical knowledge from Europe to Singapore and serves as an effective interface between Thales experts, Singapore researchers and end-users.

Growing with Universities
As testament to its commitment to the future, Thales has boosted its local presence by developing several strategic academic partnerships in Singapore. Thales has established two research laboratories with the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).  CINTRA, the joint CNRS International – NTU – Thales Research Alliance lab fosters research in nanotechnologies for electronics, photonics, and related applications; and S4TIN (Smart Small Satellite Systems –Thales In NTU) develops new concepts and technologies for systems used on micro and nano-satellites.

Promoting Innovation
Aligned with its continuous focus on research and technology, Thales inaugurated an Innovation Hub in 2014 at its country headquarters in Changi. The Hub engages customers and partners in user-centred innovation, enabling cross-functional collaborations in co-designing, prototyping and testing new concepts across areas ranging from defence and maritime security, to aerospace, air traffic management and smart cities.
Thales also forged a partnership with the Singapore University of Technology & Design (SUTD) to strengthen its capabilities at the Innovation Hub, attain fresh perspectives on innovation challenges and grow the pool of design-conscious engineering talents in Singapore.
