Thales referents in Science for the new generations

The objective of this day promoted by UNESCO and UN-Women is to promote the access and participation of women and girls in science. We make visible references for girls and young people in the field of technical and scientific studies.

The commemoration of this day is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Women and girls constitute half of the world's population and therefore half of its potential.

In Thales Spain we have more than 100 women scientists and engineers, who have carried out differents studies such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Pharmacy, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Environmental Sciences or  Industrial Engineering. Science and engineering are mainly part of the studies of Thales professionals,  78% of the women

Isabel Ferrando, Innovation Manager, studied Chemistry  “since I was a little girl I was very curious, I really liked asking questions and knowing what everything was made of. For me, studying chemistry was like discovering the origin and ingredients of everything that surrounds us. " Isabel emphasizes that her reference is Marie Curie "because of her life devoted to science, her discoveries and the fact that nowadays she continues to be a great example of work and perseverance."

Charo Guerrero, Operation, Diagnosis & Tools Manager, chose studying Physics, something that surprised in her family environment, since “my father did not have much faith that this atoms would lead me to any successful objective but, without understanding it, in the end he supported me!  parents always support you… !!! ”. She admits that she chose this career because he had always been very curious and physics answered almost all of her questions. As a reference, she highlights that “it was my first high school physics teacher woman. She was very tough, but she loved physics and knew how to transmit it with a passion that touched me deeply. "

Raquel Molares, head of the Health and Wellbeing area, with a university degree in Pharmacy, declares that "I wanted to study engineering, but a horrible technical drawing teacher and a wonderful chemistry teacher changed my course at COU". Her reference point has been her mother, whose educational training in mathematics allowed her to have close contact with science in her family environment.
