David was SVP, Research at the Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT) and, previously, VP, Research at Orange. A Doctor in Computer Science and an expert in Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science, he created and ran R&D teams at Orange Labs working on intelligent agents and natural human-machine dialogue- , for more than fifteen years. He also directed several industrial transfer and innovative service deployment programmes. His research work led to the design and implementation of the first worldwide technologies of conversational agents, as well as to the ACL inter-agent communication language standard.
David was a leader of FranceIA, the national strategy on Artificial Intelligence. He was also Chairman of the French National Research Agency’s Digital Content & Interactions programme evaluation committee , and a member of numerous other research and innovation boards and steering committees, including the board of the National Alliance on Digital Science (Allistene), the Scientific Councils of the INRIA and CNRS institutes on “Information and Communication Science and Technology”, the European Commission’s OISPG (« Open Innovation Strategy Policy Group »), and the “Digital Future” Think Tank.
He was a founder of CERNA, the Ethics Commission of Allistene, and is a member of the "Comité 21 – Prospectives" Think Tank dealing with the implementation of the SDGs (COP21 Sustainable Development Goals ). He was France’s representative at the G7 Innovators, and is currently a member of the GPAI, the Global partnership on AI, and of ONE AI, the OECD expert network on AI.
For nearly ten years, David was an Orange Fellow. He has been awarded the France Télécom Award for Best Technology Innovation, the Orange Award for Best Service Innovation, the European Customer Relationship Forum Award, and the Blondel Medal in Artificial Intelligence & Cognitive Science.
