From apprentice to VP: a platform for apprentices to develop their career at Thales

Earlier in 2014, Thales UK’s Land and Air System business launched its Advanced Weapon Systems Manufacturing Apprenticeship programme providing six apprentices a fantastic opportunity to learn a range of technical skills and develop a career with Thales.

David Beatty, Advanced Weapon Systems, VP, who began his own career at Thales as an apprentice said: “Apprentices should use this fantastic opportunity as a platform to develop a prosperous career within Thales.” His career progression is a shining example of how apprenticeships can act as a foundation to achieving the position of Vice President in an international company.

Thales is committed to developing young talent to join our team of highly skilled and innovative engineers to ensure that our engineering community remains at the cutting edge of global best practice. The Advanced Weapon Systems Manufacturing Apprenticeship Programme is just one way in which Thales achieves this, as well as investing in the local community by employing talented individuals through a structured programme.

The first year of the programme will provide an overview of the key areas that make up the manufacturing within Advanced Weapon Systems with apprentices spending eight weeks in each department in order to develop foundational knowledge. During this time the apprentices will also work towards technical qualifications to complement the practical experience they will acquire.
