Basingstoke Graduates support Imagineering Fair

A team of graduates and apprentices have delivered a highly successful Thales UK presence at this year's annual Imagineering Fair, which aims to introduce young people to the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

The event  held from 28-31 May was part of the 151st Royal Bath & West Show in Shepton Mallett and a Thales team  showcased a number of interactive activities and talked to young visitors about their potential engineering and technology career path.

The Basingstoke team were on site from Friday through till late on Saturday and helped to create one of the popular attractions on the stand, the missile launch / disarm, which was designed and built by electronics and software engineers Al Beddow and Chirstopher Baldrey. Other volunteers from the site included Danny Angiolini, Alex Burton, Lilian Knight and Lewis Martin.

Heidi Whitaker, a business graduate and Harry de Greeff, an engineering graduate, both from Templecombe, organised Thales's presence at the event with help from employees from Templecombe, Bristol and Basingstoke.

Heidi says: "From a Thales point of view, it was a really successful event. We had a really busy stand and lots of interest from the public about who we are and what we do.

People are genuinely interested in what we do as a company. A lot of youngsters wanted to know if we ran apprenticeships and it was a good experience for them to speak to some of our actual apprentices."

"We’re definitely looking to repeat the strong graduate and apprentice presence at next year’s event and we’re always open to new people wanting to get involved."
