Take on the Brompton Bicycle Challenge to commemorate Battle of Britain

From 8-12 September, the RAF Benevolent Fund (RAFBF) is hosting the Battle of Britain 75th Anniversary Brompton Bicycle Challenge from Paris to London.

At least 75 cyclists – one for each year since the Battle of Britain – will ride a Brompton folding bike 230 miles to commemorate the incredible bravery and sacrifice of those who fought in the Battle during the Summer of 1940.

Could you be one of them? Visit www.ride25.com/rafbf for more information and to register your interest.

The RAFBF hopes to raise over £75,000 through this unique cycling challenge, and to help them reach this target, Thales UK is sponsoring the event.

This is part of our ongoing commitment to support past and present members of the RAF family through the RAF’s leading welfare charity. The RAFBF provides financial, practical and emotional support to two million people, including serving personnel, veterans and their dependants.

As a long-time supporter of the RAF Benevolent Fund, Thales has very generously agreed to be the headline sponsor for this terrific challenge which will finish in London on 12 September, the Saturday of Battle of Britain weekend. The RAFBF remains extremely grateful to the Thales Charitable Trust and all the people at Thales UK for their wonderful generosity over the years.” Paul Hewson, Regional Director, Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund

The Battle of Britain 75th Anniversary Brompton Bicycle Challenge recognises the huge contribution the RAF made to the Second World War. From July to October 1940, aircrew from the RAF fought a daily aerial battle against the Nazi Luftwaffe bombers as they attempted to secure the skies over Britain as a prelude to a full Nazi invasion.

Although vastly outnumbered, the RAF fought relentlessly against the Luftwaffe, helped by the Spitfire’s revolutionary British engineering and new radar technology which enabled tracking of incoming aircraft.
