Thales supports key military rugby clash of titans

Thales is proud to be supporting the 100th Army-Navy rugby match at Twickenham this weekend which will attract 80,000 sports fans to this classic encounter.

As part of its commitment to support military sport, the Thales logo will also be featuring on the shirts of the Royal Navy team for the April 29th match and the 2017 season.
The Army-Navy Match is the annual rugby union match played between the senior teams of the British Army and Navy. It is part of the wider Inter-Services tournament where all three teams from the armed forces play against one another.

Thales in the UK has supported the Royal Navy Rugby Union for many years. We are the key sensor provider to the Fleet, including sonar, electronic warfare, optronic masts and periscopes, radar, communications and services.

Phil Jones, head of our UK maritime mission systems business, said: “We’re very proud to be supporting this milestone event, it really is one of the highlights in the military sporting year. We are the virtual ‘eyes and eyes’ of the Royal Navy Fleet and very much value our trusted partner status at all levels of service life.

“We’ve been a close sponsor of Navy rugby for many years as we understand how important service sporting activities are for morale and training. To be part of the 100th match between these two teams is an honour for us.”

Colonel Ewen Murchison, Royal Marines, Chairman of the RNRU, said: “The Army v Navy match is undoubtedly the highlight of the RNRU calendar; however it is the generosity of our sponsors which enables us to offer a full programme of community and representative rugby for our sailors and marines all-year round.  We are hugely grateful for the continued and valuable support that Thales has provided over the years.  Long may our close relationship continue!"
