Thales supports latest Arkwright engineering scholars

The Trust is the educational charity that promotes engineering careers to high-potential science, technology, engineering and maths school students.

The five who have been awarded Arkwright Engineering Scholarships are Georgia Semple (Wirral Grammar School for Girls), Alice Collier (Ricards Lodge School, London), Maria Liddy (Rathmore School, Belfast), Peter Ronshaugen (Cheadle Hulme School, Manchester) and Edward Dickens (The Blue School, Wells).

The Arkwright Scholarships Trust identifies, inspires and nurtures future leaders in engineering and technical design. Arkwright tackles its aim by awarding Engineering Scholarships through rigorous selection to high-calibre students from all educational backgrounds to support them through their 'A' levels and Scottish Highers.

A long standing supporter of Arkwright and its objectives, Thales regularly sponsors Scholars and offers additional company support, including finding company mentors, work experience and site visits and involving them in any potentially inspiring engineering opportunities such as product launches.

The scholars receive financial support, opportunities to access workshops, training course, careers advice etc through the Arkwright scheme.

Eve Maywood, Thales UK’s Education and Outreach Manager, said: “All of the young people were supported by their schools to apply for a scholarship as they are high achievers. After an application, aptitude exam and interview 410 applicants were picked around the UK to gain a scholarship.

“As I have met them, I can confirm that they are pretty amazing individuals who are achieving great things at school. However their passion, enthusiasm and hunger for knowledge concerning engineering and what can be achieved within this field is immense.”
