#ThalesArduino: Vote for your favorite now

It is a Thales-led initiative run in conjunction with a number of universities in the U.S. and UK where engineering students put their skills to the test to compete against one another. After an extensive competition we have narrowed the field to the top four teams (two U.S., two UK teams) and we now ask that you help us pick the winner.

The rules of this annual competition are simple: the student-led projects must relate in some way to Thales and its markets – being innovative helps too.

Last year’s winning team, from the University of Exeter in the UK, developed a smart door locking system with a companion smartphone application. This project demonstrated a high-level of creativity relative to our security capabilities and we are looking forward to seeing who wins again this year.

Project Arduino, which is part of Thales’ Early Careers recruitment activity, encourages engineering students from participating universities, to put their skills into creatively developing an Arduino based concept. After having been taught how to use an Arduino, the students that attend the campus-based workshops are asked to get creative and come up with their own projects, before submitting a video explaining and demonstrating their concept. The outcomes in previous years have ranged from augmented reality transport apps to inflight entertainment systems to smartphone controlled hovercraft.

The winning team members this year will each receive a Samsung Pebble smart watch.

The voting period will close on Wednesday, February 10 at noon EST time.
