Thales unveils NEXEN for enhanced platform interconnectivity

Air combat is becoming increasingly reliant on interconnected platforms exchanging mission data. Real-time correlation of this data is the key to information superiority. But how can fighter pilots manage multiple communication systems, choose which channel to use for each type of data and fly the mission at the same time? Thales’s NEXEN secure communication server simplifies the task, providing pilots with the connectivity they need, when they need it.

At the heart of aviation connectivity, NEXEN ties together all the systems and functions needed on board a military aircraft to allow real-time data exchange. With NEXEN, all resources can be shared, with a dedicated transmission channel for each level of security. With its ANSSI-certified* enclosure, NEXEN guarantees segregation of data flows according to their level of confidentiality, and meets the highest standards of cybersecurity. With the new communication server, pilots can manage all radio and other communication systems at the same time, and mission systems can exchange data in real time. By reducing pilot workload, NEXEN enables pilots to stay fully focused on their core mission when critical decisions need to be made.

NEXEN is built on a user-oriented architecture: all participants can publish their own resources and subscribe to other user channels, irrespective of location or resource availability. It offers the scalability needed to ensure that military aircraft are ready for the connectivity challenges of the decades ahead — and that pilots have the key information they need in all tactical situations.
This solution is suitable for combat aircraft, special-mission aircraft, helicopters and UAVs.
